The Duff Cake

I've mentioned to a couple people about the interesting thing that happened at our house about a week ago. The spousal unit got home and called me into the kitchen. He had something to show me.

He is currently the Superintendent Commander Support Staff - don't ask me why there are no prepositions in that title. In any case, as such, he had attended a promotion ceremony. One of the guys was promoted from captain to lieutenant colonel. That's a fairly big deal.

There was a party. Somebody splurged big time. I don't know who bought it, but the recipient was going to throw the rest away!! WHAT?????

So the spousal unit got to bring home a little surprise for us. When I went into the kitchen, there was a huge display platter with most of a three-layer bottom tier sitting on it. My jaw nearly dropped through the floor. Hannah was the first of the kids to realize what it was. She was giddy! We, of course, are huge fans of the show, and she just shouted "Ace of Cakes!!!"

Yes, Hannah, there is a Santa Claus Chef Duff, and we have one of his cakes. Okay, part of one of his cakes, but I'll take it!! I've missed him every time he's been at HCAT (the culinary school I was attending) so this is particularly awesome for me.

Now, without further ado, the pictures. It was originally in the shape of a full military helmet.

Oh, and yes, as the following picture will attest, it was flat out delicious. Moist and chocolaty and just plain GOOD. Even the fondant was good. It tasted somewhat like marshmallows.

Wow! I am in awe. Give spousal unit a hug for being so smart to bring that home!
